Abstract

A comparison is made of the effects of post-harvest dips of calcium nitrate, calcium chloride and a number of other materials on the incidence of bitter pit in cool-stored Granny Smith apples. The incidence of bitter pit was considerably higher in fruit from young trees than in fruit from old trees irrespective of treatment.
