Abstract

Australian native plants have been an integral part of the Aboriginal communities for centuries, and these plants have been used both as food and as traditional medicine (Cooper, 2004). Recently, these Australian native plants have gained significant interest at both national and international levels due to recent scientific discoveries linking many health-promoting properties with these plants (Wilkinson et al., 2002). Exploring the potential of these plants as functional food ingredients and/or novel pharmaceutical compounds is an emerging research area. © 2016 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
