Abstract

In observations on the distribution of eggs and larvae of Chrysodeixis argentifera (Gn.) on tobacco plants in northern Queensland in 1971 and 1972, 93.31% of the eggs, 99.02% of the 1st- and 2nd-instar larvae, 97.00% of the 3rd- and 4th-instar larvae and 86.12% of the 5th- and 6th-instar larvae were on the lower surface of the leaves. These patterns were not significantly affected by the plant stage or level of infestation by the noctuid. The implications for control of the noctuid are discussed.
