Abstract

A 2-yr trial with tobacco cv. Hicks, in which irrigation was withheld for 1-8 weeks after transplanting, showed that, in one year, withholding irrigation for 4 weeks produced a significant increase in the " acre index " (graded yield * relative grade value) of the crop; plant height and leaf number were positively related to the duration of the water restriction. Other growth data are discussed.-M.G.W.
