Abstract

Factors affecting growth rates of Hereford steers grazing a predominantly paspalum (Paspalum dilatatum) pasture with and without nitrogen fertilizer at 1 and 2 animals per acre
were investigated in 2 x 2 factorial experiments over a period of 4 years. Fertilization with ammonium sulphate, which was applied in early summer only in the first two years and in
early summer and autumn in the remaining two years, resulted in large increases in dry-matter pasture yields in each year.
