Abstract

Vigour of the pasture (established in 1935) on poorly structured and crusting alluvial soil was restored by application of 1 cwt/acre urea (with or without disking); dry-matter yields were greatly increased, but were depressed when only cultivation with disk harrows was applied. Recoveries of N were low (around 20%) possibly due to volatile losses of N in the absence of rain after urea application.
