Abstract

This project has been the primary provider of research, development and extension (RD&E) in the dryland grains industry in south west Queensland(SW QLD). The project has carried out participatory RD&E to improve the economic, environmental and social performance of the industry in the following theme areas:
• New crops, pastures and rotations
• Water use and water use efficiency (WUE)
• Nitrogen (N) management
• Phosphorus (P) and other nutrient management
• Soil characterisation.
Research has been conducted at two core sites as well as at Roma Research Station and on farms in the region.
Extension activities included field days, action learning workshops, various publications and support for grower groups.
Evaluation has demonstrated positive outcomes with a benefit:cost ratio of 7.5:1
