Abstract

A fungal infection is reported in juvenile boring clams (T. crocea ) from a commercial hatchery in northern Queensland, Australia. A random sample of 150 T. crocea were examined and 3(2%) were found to have fungal lesions. Histological examination of lesions in the siphonal mantle revealed septate, dematiaceous branching hyphae. Fungal hyphae were also present in the lateral mantle and gills. Cultures grew 3 dematiaceous fungi, Curvularia sp., Exserohilum rostratum [Setosphaeria rostrata] and an unidentified fungus.
