Abstract

This document has been compiled from a number of sources and, to the authors’ knowledge, represents the best advice currently available regarding fish stocking in impoundments in northern and eastern Australia. Although the principles outlined in this document may apply to impoundment stocking in other parts of Australia, the examples and references provided relate specifically to Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory—the states where native fish stocking in public waters is currently carried out. Many of the examples and recommendations given are based on research carried out in south-eastern Queensland between 1998 and 20021. Other data has been gleaned from individual researchers and research organisations throughout northern and eastern Australia and, in a few instances, from research carried out in other countries.
