Abstract

Testing of a number of improved pasture and forage species at two sites over 4 years showed that, in the presence of applied phosphorus, dry matter yields of around 2 000 kg ha-1 of Stylosanthes humilis (Townsville stylo) and between 1 000 and 3 000 kg har1 of Urochloa mozambicensis (up to 5000 kg ha-1 in establishment year with applied N) can be obtained. Other species to show promise included Macroptilium atropurpureum cv. Siratro, Cenchrusspp. and Dactyloctenium giganteum (Q 10091).
