AbstractA clinically mild disease syndrome was observed in the majority of 44 cattle that were naturally infected with Leptospira pomona during an experimentally induced outbreak. The mean maximum rectal temperature associated with leptospirosis was 104·6 ± 0·2°F. The duration of the febrile reaction was directly related to the subsequent degree of leptospiruria. Three calves suffered a febrile relapse during leptospiruria, associated with a rise in serum antibody titre and a drop in the level of excretion. One of five pregnant animals aborted and three undernourished steers died during leptospiruria.
