Abstract

This potato malady is known under many names, of which the following may be mentioned :-Blight, Late Blight, Potato Murrain, Potato Rot, Potato Mould, Downy Nlildew, Brown Rust (Tasmania), La Maladie des Pommes-de-terre, Phytophfl,
ora. Probably the last mentioned is to be preferred, since it has allusion to the most essential feature of the malady, the growth within the potato of a parasite-a fungus, first designated-by Montague-Botrytis infestaras, and now known as Phytophthora infestaras, De Bary.
