AbstractI welcome you here to help celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the foundation of the Entomological Society of Queensland (ESQ). The Indian writer Anurag Kashyap once said, “For me, any kind of thing that has stood for 100 years tells me of the health of that thing”. So, a society completing 100 years and still growing just says that it is in a healthy state. That is the thought behind the title of this Symposium “One-hundred years strong: a celebration of Queensland Entomology”. Fifty years ago, the theme of the Society’s Golden Jubilee Symposium was “Changing Patterns in Entomology” and was essentially an analysis of the past, present, and future of entomology in Queensland. You will see a similar theme emerge in some of the talks presented.
