Abstract

Brown spot disease of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) caused by Pleiochaeta setosa (Kirchn.) Hughes is described for the first time. The fungus is shown by pathogenicity tests
to be a wound pathogen, and abrasion by sand particles during cyclonic weather apparently predisposes the plants to infection.
