Abstract

About 150 lb/acre annually was the minimum level needed for the dominance of Kikuyu grass (Pennisetum clandestinum) and Paspalum dilatatum over narrow-leaf carpet grass (Axonopus affinis); more than 200 lb N were required to develop Kikuyu-grass dominance. There was a significant trend towards lower levels of exchangeable K in soil treated with 200-400 lb N.
